about

"As you might have noticed, this is towards the top of the heap in 2010. Ajilvsga has created perhaps the best cross-over between drone and noise with almost black metal atmosphere. To describe this as bleak would be like saying a black hole has pull.

This music is not as amenable to a moment by moment rehash, as the volume of material, and the nature of the material, renders such a synopsis highly reductive. Instead, this music is so rife with emotion, with dread, that I’m quite tempted to unlock my bag of impressionistic cliche for this occasion. In fact, no album has inspired me during this winter more than The Origin of the Chaul.

This album is cold. Not in the “cool” way (though it is cool), but evocative of low temperatures. This is the cold that reminds you of your bone structures, that causes you to sweat oils, trapping odors, stripping away protection and destroying concentration on anything other than the biting, deep cuts the room is making. The landscapes are barren, blown over, gray. This is not a sound of a populace, and it is not a sound of emptiness, but rather the sound of space abandoned for want of heat. This album can recreate the mentality of huddling for warmth, the idea of standing outside yourself and looking over yourself, noticing unprotected portions of your skin, moving fabric to cover yourself, trap heat.

Listen to this record and concentrate on the objects moving, the pressures being applied all around you. If the sound of the moment of extinction could be captured and rendered void of sadness, it would sound like Origin. Amazing." - killedincars, December 7, 2010
